Rich Traditions & Celebrations
The Oktoberfest tradition began over 200 years ago when Bavaria’s Crown Prince Ludwig married Princess Terese of Saxony on October 12, 1810. The citizens of Munich were invited to attend the festivities held on the fields in front of the city gates to celebrate the royal event. This grew into a 16 day event.
Today, that celebration continues as Oktoberfest, the world’s largest Volksfest. Held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, and celebrated around the world.
About Oktoberfest: A traditional autumn festival that originated in Bavaria; it was held in October to celebrate the Bavarian Crown Prince’s marriage. However, due to weather concerns always gets celebrated in September.
