Step back in time and enjoy some Olde World German Cuisine at the Village Lanterne. The Village Lanterne opened its doors in October of 2007. This fine eatery is brought to you by the same people who brought you the Black Forest Bakery. All deserts and pastries are freshly baked by the Black Forest Bakery. The menu contains a wide selection of fine German dishes as well as a varied selection of wines and beers.

The quaint restaurant, one block from LIRR Lindenhurst train station, makes a perfect location for SSC friends get together on a lazy afternoon.

The Menu

The chatter:  Dinner begins with a basket of warm "pretzel rolls" from the family's Black Forest Bakery down the street. Good as they may be, it's wise to restrain yourself if you plan to order the Bavarian cheese-dip appetizer, which comes with more of those rolls. The platter includes a crock of melted smoked Gruyère and sharp Cheddar cheeses spiked with Hofbrau lager beer as well as crisp, juicy slashed knockwurst and bratwurst, blanched chilled cauliflower and a pile of gherkins. I'd be happy with the meat alone. The Maryland crab cake is well spiced, not the least bit bready, accompanied by a coral-hued rémoulade. The stuffed pretzel rolls are to die for, but you can start with desert and enjoy an authentic German cake.
